Walk + Chalk: May 31
The Walk + Chalk was a huge success. A big thanks to all who came out and walked!
On Saturday, May 31st, dozens of Syracuse residents joined in commemorating the invisible journeys of Near West Side pedestrians while leaving a mark on the city they love. Armed with chalk-wands, maps, and matching uniforms, twelve groups of participants each walked a two-mile route from one of twelve starting points, converging simultaneously at the SALTQuarters for a following reception. For precise routes, please see the Interactive Map. After completing their journeys, the weary walkers were greeted at SALTQuarters with pierogies, cabbage rolls, and refreshments from The Welcome INN, a local Ukrainian restaurant famous for its traditional recipes and hardy helpings. Refreshments were followed by live performances of spoken word poetry by members of the Underground Poetry Spot, as well as an open mic. |
