MAY 31, 2014: WALK + CHALK
Ever wonder what it’s like to walk home to the Near West Side? Now you can find out! Join on in commemorating the invisible journeys of Near West Side residents while leaving your mark on he city you love. In a large public Walk+Chalk on Saturday, May 31st, twelve small groups will each walk a 2 mile route accompanied by a guide from the NWS. Groups will use a chalk wand to trace their steps and all will converge simultaneously at the SALTQuarters Art Center for a following reception featuring spoken word poetry by members of the underground. SALTQuarters Gallery, 115 Otisco St. Make a map, take a map! On Oct. 4th, 2013, members of the community were invited to celebrate the grand opening of the "Syracuse Pedestrian Routes" project. Guests were invited to share their own stories of walking in the city of Syracuse by adding their personal journeys on to a large blank map on the wall. After contributing their own route, each guest was given a free pedestrian map. |
What you can do...To host your own event, get some friends together and self organize. It's as easy as a few phone calls and a short walk.Don't ask for permission, just grab a map and get to it!
